Dean Barrow

FOUNDING PARTNER

Dean Barrow was admitted to practice in Belize in 1975 and has focused his practise on litigation in all areas of law and at all levels of the court system.

He was a member of the House of Representatives for thirty-six years and Prime Minister of Belize from 2008 to 2020.

The Rt. Hon. Dean O. Barrow S.C. retired from public office in November of 2020 and immediately resumed his legal career as head of litigation practice at Barrow & Williams LLP.

Rodwell Williams

RODWELL R. A. WILLIAMS S.C., C.B.E.

Rodwell is the Managing Partner of Barrow & Williams LLP and the head of the firm’s litigation practice group. He was admitted to practice in Belize in 1985 and is one of Belize’s leading practitioners in the area of commercial and corporate Law. He has prepared cases and represented clients in judicial hearings at every level of the court system up to and including the Caribbean Court of Justice Belize’s highest appellate court.

Rodwell has extensive experience in all areas of the law and focuses his practice on Commercial, Corporate, Litigation, Offshore Services, Real Estate & Trusts. He advises a broad clientele of financial institutions and has a breadth of experience in the area of banking and finance. He specialises in contentious and non contentious commercial transactions. Rodwell also has vast experience working with complex multi-jurisdictional matters.

Prior to founding the firm, he served as a Magistrate in Belize City during the years 1982 to 1984 and as Crown Counsel in the Office of Public Prosecution, 1984. He has also tutored in paralegal studies at the University College of Belize, 1991- 1996 and in the Certificate in Public Administration programme offered by the University of the West Indies Extra Mural Studies Programme (1986-1988).

In 2008, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (Civil Division) – CBE for public and community service.
He has participated in various conferences and written numerous academic articles. Rodwell is a member of various professional bodies, has served and serves on various committees, foundations and organizations at the highest level.

Tania Moody

TANIA M. MOODY

Tania was admitted to practice in Belize as an Attorney-at-Law in 2002 and is a Notary Public and Mediator. Her practice areas include Corporate and Commercial Law, Intellectual Property and Patent, Civil Practice, Family, Immigration, Finance, Mediation, Offshore Services, Probate, n contentious and non-contentious probate, Succession, administration, and trust and estate matters and Real Estate. She specializes in Corporate and Commercial Law, joint ventures, Cross Border private equity transactions, listings and mergers and acquisitions of companies, Real Estate developments and subdivisions and has had carriage of several multimillion-dollar real estate transactions.

She was ranked as a Leading Lawyer in General Business Law, Associate to Watch, by Chambers & Partners, Legal Publishers, Chambers Global, The Clients’ Guide for the years 2009, 2010, and 2011 to 2021.

Tania was the Commissioner of the National Women’s Commission of Belize and Chairwoman of the Social Security Appeal Tribunal for the years 2008 to 2019. Tania is a member of the Bar Association of Belize, the Belize Offshore Practitioners Association, International Trademark Association Lex Mundi, the World’s Leading Association of Independent Law Firms, and the Association of Caribbean Corporate Counsels.

Nigel Ebanks

NIGEL O. EBANKS

Partner, Notary Public

Nigel was admitted to practice law in Belize in 2007.

Prior to joining the firm, he served as Crown Counsel in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Nigel joined Barrow and Williams LLP as an Associate in 2008. His practice encompasses both commercial transactions and litigation with a focus on commercial litigation.

He practices in the following areas: Commercial and Civil Litigation; Banking and Commercial Transactions; Asset-tracing; International Financial Services; Real Estate; Probate; Public and Administrative Law; and Debt Collection.

Nigel previously instructed in Legal Methods and Writing at the University of the West Indies (2005).  He lectured in Business Law at the University of Belize (2009).

He is a former Executive Committee Member, Bar Association of Belize (2010 – 2011);  Legal Counsel and Director of the Belize Youth Business Trust (2011 – 2020); Vice-President, Bar Association of Belize (2013 – 2014); representative of the Bar Association of Belize on the Belize Supreme Court’s National Court-Connected Mediation Committee (2013 – 2015); Legal Advisor and Member, Central Committee of the Belize Red Cross (2013 – 2019);  Director, Central Bank of Belize (2016 – 2020); Member, Audit Committee of the Central Bank of Belize (2016 – 2020); Vice-Chairman, Central Bank of Belize (2020);  Member, Belize’s General Legal Council, the disciplinary body of Belize’s legal profession (2016 – 2020).

Nigel is the author of the Belize Chapter of the 4th, 5th and 6th editions of The Asset Tracing and Recovery Review, an international review of the practice of asset-tracing and recovery published by Law Business Research (London).

He also authored the Belize Chapter of the Chambers and Partners Litigation Global Practice Guide for the years 2019, 2020 and 2021, published by Chambers and Partners (London).

Nigel currently serves as President of the Belize Red Cross (since 2019).

He is the current contributor of the Belize Chapter of the Chambers and Partners Litigation Global Practice Guide.

He obtained a BA (Hons) in Business Administration from the University of Belize (2001);

Lissette Staine

Lissette V. Staine

Before pursuing a career in the legal practice, Lissette was a real estate agent for more than ten years.  As an attorney, she now represents individuals, corporate clients and financial institutions on various aspects of residential and commercial real estate acquisitions, sales and development, including matters of regulatory compliance, contract drafting and review, corporate structuring and counselling on security arrangements.  As a member of the firm’s litigation practice group, Lissette has successfully represented landowners and developers in court proceedings in Belize.

Lissette has made appearances at all levels of the court system in Belize including at Belize’s apex court, the Caribbean Court of Justice.  She routinely litigates on commercial disputes, estates and probate challenges, real property matters and intellectual property claims, among others.  

On the corporate and commercial side, Lissette has represented corporate clients in local and cross-border transactions, including share acquisitions, real property purchases and transactions involving high-valued movable assets such as aircrafts.

As part of her multidisciplinary practice, Lissette also practices in the area of estates and succession with a focus on obtaining grants of probate and administration, distribution of estates and litigation.

Lissette was admitted to practice in 2014.

Adler Waight

ADLER G. L WAIGHT

Adler maintains a wide practice area and advises corporate and individual clients on commercial and corporate matters including the creation and maintenance of companies, taxation, economic substance requirements, and doing business in Belize.

Adler also regularly assists and advises Administrators and Executors in obtaining Grants of Administration and Grants of Probate to distributing the proceeds of Estates. Similarly, he also regularly advises and assists clients with purchasing and acquiring property in Belize.

In addition, Adler maintains an active litigation practice and regularly appears before the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal of Belize in employment, personal injury, debt collection, judicial review, defamation, and fraud claims amongst others.

He is a member of the firm’s litigation practice group and is also a junior member of its Management Committee.

Darinka Munoz

Darinka L. Muñoz

Darinka L. Muñoz joined Barrow and Williams LLP as an associate in 2019. She is a litigator who has represented clients in a gamut of disputes at multiple levels of the Belize court system. Darinka’s practise has an emphasis on civil litigation arising from contracts, defamation, receivership, land disputes, the employment relationship, and family law cases.

Frequently, Darinka advises developers with logistics under the Designated Processing Areas regime in Belize. She also advises corporations such as Business Process Outsourcing companies and individuals in transactional, employment, compliance, and immigration matters.

Darinka was a recipient of the merit-based University of the West Indies’ Open Scholarship. At the University of the West Indies, she pursued her Bachelor of Laws degree; it is here that her passion for law was cemented. She graduated with First Class Honours and obtained several prizes for her outstanding academic achievement. At the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica, she also attained several prizes and scholarships. While in Jamaica, Darinka interned in the Litigation Department of one of the largest law firms in the Caribbean.

On her free time, she enjoys being active in her local youth group.
